November 17

``Why does time flow forward?'' Jim asks.

Tom replies, ``It doesn't. Time just is; it doesn't move any more than the city of Chicago moves. November 17 is a point in time like Chicago is a point in space.''

``But don't we move in time? And aren't we always moving forward?''

``At every instant, we are only in one place. It only appears to us that we are moving forward because we remember the past and we don't remember the future.''

``Then we could change this if we found some way to know the future!'' exclaims Jim. He suggests consulting the engineers at Sophist and changing the operation of the machine again. Once more, the engineers are able to do something. Now the time machine works so that only the contents go back in time, not the outside world. Jim intends to go a day into the future. He will discover what will happen to Tom. He can tell Tom, who will then have memory of the future, and the flow of time will be reversed. Or at least confused.

Tom thinks that something will go wrong. If you think so too,Click here.
